...And I have to fit all of my belongings in the Miata. Think I can do it oppo? For reference, here's a Miata trunk:
I'll update when I have everything packed in. Wish me luck!!
Edit : Also, are there any fellow Jalops in the Lawrence/Kansas City area? I will need to make some new friends. :D

I guess you need one of these:

Dude. I had a 14-foot U-Haul when I moved, and even then I had to make two trips.
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:01 |

What is that just shy of two dead hookers? It might be a tight fit.
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:01 |

I've seen vagabonds with bigger trunks. Good luck.

Because of all the shoes?

moved back and forth between US and Australia a few times, 2 suitcases were my limit most times, once I got a whole box! Its a great way to force you to really trim down the extras from your life, simplify and add lightness :D

except for that one shirt, you NEED that shirt... and that jar full of marbles... and the matchbox car collection, and your CDs...

Don't forget that there is all of your passenger footwell, the inch of space behind the passenger seat (unless you flipped that bracket around) and your rear package tray. You should do fine, your suspension won't be happy and you will bottom out on even the smallest bumps but it is doable. I just moved from SoCal to NorCal and I had all my tools and miscellaneous stuff packed in my NB, while all my other stuff was in my dads Pacifica.
Oh and for the sake of your sanity EAR PLUGS. Surprisingly the ear plugs really just drown out the wind and still let you hear your stereo. I don't believe I will ever go on a long roadtrip in the NB with out ear plugs again. I have a nice gaping hole in my condensor so i had no A/C for my 550 mile trip in 95-100+ degree weather, so I had to go windows down. There is no other car that I have been in with more wind noise with the windows down than my beloved NB.

Here's one idea.
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:07 |

I actually would love one of those. It would make everything so much easier.
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:07 |

Looks like only one will fit.
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:08 |

two, perhaps three. Just depends on how well you chop them up.
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:09 |

I don't have many belongings (I've moved several times in the past, and have learned that you really don't need all that much stuff), so I'm pretty confident everything will fit. We'll see though.

Your picture. I can't see it!

Should have brought the Shooting brake.
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:11 |

Exactly my friend. It's much less stressful having less stuff to worry about. Plus you can always move at the drop of a hat. I live by that mantra. Simplify and add lightness FTW!
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:12 |
|
Hell you could dice them all up in to a puree and get maximum hooker to trunk ratios
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:12 |
|
Hmm. I seem to be having image issues. With Kinja, that is.
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:14 |

Fixed. I had to use the upload button; usually just the URL works.
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:14 |

You're preaching to the choir, buddy. I've already taken more than a few long trips on the NB. I definitely keep earplugs handy. Luckily for me, I do have A/C, so windows stay up, and I took the interior apart last night and installed copious amounts of sound deadening material, so I hope that'll help, if only a little bit.
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:16 |

if only I had one of these, I wouldn't have to worry about it all fitting.
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:17 |

ha that's great. There should be trunk stuffing competitions.

I like to just pretend I'm a spy with my go bag, now if only I could wrangle myself a DB Aston

I just drove coast to coast in an NA. AMA
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:24 |

What earplugs/earmuffs do you recommend? Do you have a NA6 or NA8? How was the gas mileage? Anything I have to do to the car before setting off? Thanks
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:26 |

Also, I want your car. Can you sell me your car? I'll trade you for the Miata.
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:26 |

Best of luck! I know my car has slightly more trunk space, but this was taken just over a weeks ago heading back to school. So it can be done!!
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:27 |

yes... wait which of my cars? you may have my suby for a miata, but you may not have my Civic, which you will have to
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:30 |

For the Subie. I want a "classic" impreza sooo baaaad!! They're absolutely impossible to find anywhere! :(
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:32 |

done, simply detour your kansas trip through colorado and I'll have title in hand. The wife has always wanted a miata :D
hey oppo, shhh, don't tell him my suby is 1.8l imposter, that'll be our little secret

![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:37 |

Oh, I've seen your project from start to finish. I definitely know it's got the 1.8. But the 1.8s were never known for their blown head gaskets or failed turbos (or impossible to replace spark plugs), so I'd definitely be okay with that. Sigh... if only I could take that long of a detour.

here's one in Kansas... HAHAHAAAHAHHHAAAHAHAAHAHAHAA
no seriously, they want nearly $8k!

SOLUTION rent a UHaul truck and then get the car hauler trailer.
DONE
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:46 |
|
I've seen it. The problem with that one is the low mileage. Yes, you read that right. 12k miles in 15 years is a bad thing when you consider that a car needs to be used once in a while or it'll stop functioning properly. Chassis wise though, I'd definitely be interested. Still too expensive though, and it's an automatic. The rest of the boxes tick okay for me (cloth interior, stock radio, original everything it seems).

shooting for the other end of the scale
high miles, and auto, boo
looks nice though :P

Where in colorado are you?
![]() 09/10/2013 at 16:57 |

A wagon, that'd solve some of your moving problems :) Trade your miata for an impreza before you move :D
Denver, the mile high city, get it, its a legalized pot joke

Dude, I'll pay you a small fee if you can go and check that car out and give me a detailed summary of what's good and bad and if I should buy it. I have been wanting to go get it but I don't want to waste an 8hr trip if it ain't worth it.
![]() 09/10/2013 at 17:06 |

appears to be only about 15 minutes from my office, I could go check it out thursday during my lunch if you'd like

I only used earplugs for a few hours, then realized that I didn't really need them. My favorite is the CVS brand that are pink and yellow.
Like Travis, I have a 1996 M edition; 1.8l. Mileage with the trunk completely stuffed and the passenger seat packed was about 25-26 with the top down and 27-28 with the top up (and A/C on). I was usually around 80mph, keeping up with traffic. Mileage could have been better if I had slowed down to 65. Mine's a 5 speed and it's at 4000RPM at 75mph. It's really not geared for highway economy.
I'd recommend bringing some tools, as shit happens (my headlight unplugged itself when I was in Ohio, and I needed to pull it out to plug it back in). Also, bring a quart of oil and a tire gauge. People always say "bring a second gas can!", but you really don't need to as long as you stay cognizant of your gauge. I never let mine below the 1/4 line and I survived.
You might want to inflate your tires a bit. Mine are at 29psi for fun driving, but I had them at 34-36 for the trip in hopes of getting better mileage. Lastly, make sure that your horn works because truck drivers will not see you and might try and merge into your lane.

CL ad for that car says new timing belt :) http://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/3998706513
dent in pass side rocker panel, optional mid wing, optional centere gauges, optional fog lights, drivers side surround appears broken, very stock including stock radio and air intake, has oder thing in vents though, possible smokers car, different wheels, optional centre arm rest riser, sohc 2.2 not the issue prone 2.5 or dohc, very clean interior, lower miles than most, kinda high price it seems though
for the sub $6k there is a lot of option here in Denver though

Awesome! I'd really appreciate it! Also, while you're there, there's two other impreza wagons (a bugeye and a newer one ). If you have the time, I'd like your opinion on whether one of those would be a better deal.
![]() 09/10/2013 at 17:18 |
|
I'll be taking all of my tools with me, so that's a given. I'll definitely keep the tire pressure in mind. And yeah, 26-28mpg sounds about right for the small trips I've taken in it. Glad to know it doesn't go down much with the trunk stuffed.

Have fun up North-East a bit! I think there are a few Oppos in the KC area, though I can't remember who exactly!
![]() 09/10/2013 at 18:00 |

Wait... did you already go look at it? I like the 01 2.5RS too. It seems clean and rust free. Might be a good one to check out. AAAAHHH, I wish I could take a day or two to go up there and shop...

hrm, woops, completely forgot about checking this out. Still keen on my doing so?
![]() 09/13/2013 at 15:12 |

Absolutely sir! Although the other 2.5RS that you posted is already gone :(
![]() 09/17/2013 at 12:44 |

so I went and viewed the three subarus at this "dealer". They were all ok, but I'd say right at the top of the price for their value, i.e. not a bargain/deal. I personally wouldn't be willing to drive 8+ hours to pick one up.
![]() 09/17/2013 at 12:51 |

I see. Thanks! I really appreciate. I guess I'll just have to keep looking around my area. Luckily I moved much closer to the Kansas City area so I have much better odds now. Again, thanks a lot!

What do you think of
this one?
![]() 09/19/2013 at 10:46 |
|
Yes, I've seen that one on CL for a while now. I think that one seems VERY interesting. Brand new everything, updated interior, I've actually thought if my subaru suffers a tragedy I will be calling this guy for sure. I am very interested to know why its still available after weeks online at that price. And I'm very interested to know why he did so much work and isn't keeping it after 300 miles.
Give him a call and get the low down on it.
![]() 09/19/2013 at 12:29 |
|
Quick update on that: I texted the guy, and he seems like a jackass. Asked for more pictures and he just sent me the same ones he's got on CL. When I mentioned that, he said "well if your (his spelling, not mine) serious you can just come and have a look for yourself" so yeah...
He did mention that the block is from a 2.5 STi with original SOHC heads completely rebuilt from scratch. But then again, that's stuff I could've read in the CL post. Hell, he couldn't even provide me pictures of the 5 spoke wheels he mentioned in it.
Also, I too think it's pretty fishy that he hasn't moved the car any more than 300 miles, and even fishier that he's using pictures of last goddamn winter (see all the snow?). Sigh... an otherwise interesting (and potentially NP) vehicle ruined by an asshat owner.
